Day 5
Saturday, March 7, 2009

today started out beautifully. (:
the sun was shining so brightly that its warmth lingered through even for awhile.
suddenly it felt really nice having the sun around during this cold weather.
hahahaha.

we went to three places of interest today. first was the East Lake.
simply breathtaking sceneries. (:
the mist that surrounded the lake,
the flowers that are starting to bloom,
the landscape that was just so extraordinary.
words can't describe much how magnificent it was. (:

let the pictures do the talking. (:

the many scenic views of the lake and blooming flowers.

a combination of the sun, the lake and part of a tree.
see the small black thing on the lake?
yes, its a boat. a special one though. (:

this is the boat.
looks so comfy isn't it?
they actually have boating services to bring people around the lake
to admire the peaceful scenery. (:

a group photo before setting off to the rest of the lake.
hahaha.

look at the tree behind us!
the flowers are starting to bloom.
which means spring is coming. (:

this is one of the bridge at the East Lake.
the path we are standing on is actually for bicycles to pass through.
most of the bridges are built in this way.
its because bicycles is one of the main mode of transportation in China;
whereby it is very convenient for them to travel from one place to another.

i think the tree behind us is quite unique.
it is just the way the branches grow that makes it different from the rest.
it looks like one of those trees in scary movies.
hahahaha. =P

and well, thats nadiyah pondering over the refined and renowed Qu Yuan.
i guess she was mesmerized by the fact that he was famous for his anthology of poetry.
(:

wanting to be a great scholar like Qu Yuan, we decided to pose like him too.
hopefully we can be as wise as him as well.
hahahahaha. (:

i love this view so much.
it has the winter sonata feeling.
only that there isn't any snow though.
hahahaha.

the guns are for shooting...

BALLOONS!!
hahahaha. (:

and we saw two couples having photoshoot at the East Lake!
it is just so interesting. (:

the next place we went to was Hubei Provincial Musuem.
it was really rich in history with all the artefacts from the different periods in China history.
some were from spring and autumn period while others were from the warring states periods.
but all in all, they are really amazing.
(:

these are all made of bronze.
there are vessels, sword, axe and bell.
this shows that ancient people are indeed resourceful and creative.
they can even make a sword out of bronze!

this is the Chinese musical instrument, Zither, that was used in the past.
there isn't any strings though.

this is actually a bamboo pillow that was used during the warring states period.
and what is a pillow without a bed right?
well..

the wooden foldaway bed! (thats what they call it)
hahahaha.
very interesting. (:

another interesting artefacts.
who would have thought that these were actually used as tables
during the warring states period as well?
they are different because they were from the different areas in Hubei Province.

this was how the soldiers geared themselves up.
just a spear and an armor shield. (:

and lastly, we went to the Yellow Crane Tower.
it was actually built during the three kingdom period for military purposes.
even though the name is "Yellow Crane", there weren't any yellow crane there.
but there is definitely a history behind the name. (:

this was the first Yellow Crane Tower that was built.

during each dynasty, changes were made to the tower.
hence, the above is actually how the tower is like presently.

the bus system here is very different from Singapore.
they are actually attached to a few wires above it.
for what purpose?
im not too sure yet.
will find it out very soon.

a fun and fruitful day. (:
